Lithuania SIG #Lithuania information in US census records #lithuania

Harvey Kabaker writes, "When browsing early 20th century US Census lists,
I have noticed entire blocks, or an entire apartment building, whose
residents were born in Poland - Russia, Poland (Russ), or similar wording."

I would add, however, that US census listings can be somewhat unreliable.
My mother's family came >from Belarus ("White Russia"), which I believe was
part of the Russian Empire and not part of Poland while they lived there or
later. Yet some of the census records list them as having been born in
Poland. The names (first and last) also vary in spelling >from census to
census. So while the census can give important information, it should
not be looked at as the last word.

All best,
Meri-Jane
