In the late 1800 until about the 1970, immigrants >from the various shtetlach ran benevolent societies and associations to provide aid and social programming for their landsman. These were mostly in NYC but there were likely similar organizations in places like Baltimore.
Most or all of these have shut down as the original immigrants died and their kids didn't have any interest in keeping them going.
But what happened to all of their records?
Did someone acquire them or did they simply end up in a landfill? I have no idea.
