Dear Fellow Researchers,
There are some mysteries I would like to solve about my family so I'm
wondering if anyone can shed some light:
1) Why were some Jewish birth, marriage and death records in Lodz not
reported to the Lodz U.S.C. in the 1910s, 1920s and 1930s? I know that my
family were marrying and having children in Lodz during this time period, yet
none of their records show up.
2) Why would a married Jewish couple, already having an 8-year-old child, be
required to remarry in a civil ceremony in the Lodz ghetto in 1941? (Their
marriage in Lodz around 1933 does not show up in the Lodz U.S.C.)
3) Why would someone go to a court in Lodz in 1946 to have someone declared
legally deceased? This woman, her husband and children all died in the
Holocaust, according to the Pages of Testimony >from Yad Vashem. They were all
from Piotrkow-Trybunalski.If anyone has any answers, I would appreciate hearing >from you.
