Lodz Area Research Group #Lodz #Poland Updated Zgierz Surname List #poland #lodz

Joe Ross

Dear Researchers of the town Zgierz and surrounding areas:

An updated Surname list has been posted that now includes the surnames
listed in the indexes for the additional 18 years of data that have
now been indexed. This now includes the time period of 1896 to 1913
that were previously unavailable to us. The current surname list
includes all names >from the period 1823 through 1913.The Surname List
can be accessed here: http://www.jri-poland.net/psa/zgierzsurn.htm

As I noted in the past, to ensure that our Zgierz the data is put
online quickly, we decided to hire professionals to extract the
records - at a cost of about $2500 to $3000. While we have raised
some of the funds through generous contributions to date, given the
many active researchers with an interest in Zgierz, it is our hope to
raise the balance of needed funds in the shortest possible time.

The second stage of the Zgierz project will be to supplement all
previously indexed records >from the earlier years (1826 to 1895) and
to link the search results to the scans of these records. Any surplus
funds raised for the first stage will be used for these additional
extractions.

We are counting on all researchers with an interest in their family's
Zgierz area roots to support this project. While a donation of any
size would be welcomed and appreciated, JRI-Poland has set a
Qualifying Contribution of NO LESS THAN $200. This will enable you to
receive full information for your family in the records of Zgierz
prior to the data being posted online. Information on how to support
the Zgierz project is available at: www.jri-poland.org/support.htm

Because of the small percentage of researchers who contribute to these
projects, we are hoping that one or two researchers will decide that
they want to make a significant difference. So, if you, your
family,or a foundation with which you are associated, are in the
position to make a substantial donation, perhaps as a challenge grant,
it could ensure that this project will be a success. After this
project is completed, the Zgierz data will be searchable in the
JRI-Poland Database and also the JewishGen All Poland Database.

Please contact me with any questions or for more information on how
you can help bring this project to fruition.
