Even if the Kalonymides were not Leviim, this would not necessarily
mean they could not be ancestors of the MaHaRSHa (who was a Levi)
and his relative the TaZ (also a Levi), at least according to Paul
Jacobi who in his researches stated that their descent >from the
Kalonymide family was through a maternal line.
Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid was the father of
Rabbi Zalman HaLevi father of
Rabbi Dov Beirish HaLevi Ashkenazi father of
Rabbi Shimshon HaLevi of Regenspurg father of
Rabbi Avraham HaLevi father of
Rabbi Shimshon HaLevi of Spira father of
Rabbi David HaLevi father of
Rabbi Yosef Yaakov HaLevi father of
Rabbi Menachem Mendel HaLevi father of
Rabbi Zalman Dov HaLevi father of
Rabbi David HaLevi father of
Rabbi Yerucham HaLevi reputedly among the great Chachamim of Germany
father of
Rabbi Gershon HaLevi reputedly among the great Kabbalists in the
land of Israel father of
Rabbi Yosef HaLevi father of
Rabbi Shalom HaLevi (these later two were, like their ancestors reputedly
among the great Chachamim of Germany) father of
Rabbi Leibush HaLevi father of
Rabbi Yosef HaLevi father of
Rabbi Moshe HaLevi (these later three were reputedly among the great
Chachamim of Poland) father of
Rabbi Avraham HaLevi father of
Rabbi Shlomo Zalman HaLevi father of
Rabbi Yehuda HaLevi descendent of a Rabbi Shabtai HaLevi HOROWITZ
and father of
The MaHaRSHa.

The mother of the MaHaRSHa was Gitel daughter of
Rabbi Tzvi HELMAN of Prague, brother of the father of the MaHaRaL and
son-in-law of Rabbi Eliezer TREVES (the TREVES family was
descended from
Rashi) who in turn was the son of
Rabbi (Naftali) Hertz TREVES the author of Siddur Rabbi Hertz and
descendent of
Rabbeinu Shmuel a son of
Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid (a Kalonymous).

As can be seen with multiple ways he could claim descent >from the
House of King David, he didn't need the Kalonymus family for it.
Also being descended >from the Kalonymus family on his mother's side
the MaHaRSHa would not need to have Kalonymus descent to be forged
in his honor on his father's side. As for the MaHaRSHa being a Levi,
on the MaHaRSHa's tombstone is written that he was Rabbi Shmuel
Eliezer ben Rabbi Yehuda HaLevi.
