Are you sure that the spelling of MODOVAN is correct? Could the name
be MOLDOVAN, which was a common name in Sighet and nearby areas of
Transylvania? Gychanhzas is not a Hungarian spelling and must also
be incorrect. "Haz" means house or residence in Hungarian and
"haza" is a very common suffix in place names. There is also a place
called Gyongyoshalasz but it is in Heves, which is closer to
Budapest. There is also a Gyongy that was in Szatmar megye and is
now Guingiu, Romania.
