Dear Fellow ROM-SIGgers,
It is with a very heavy heart that I send this notice this evening.
Unfortunately I have had an accident, falling on the stairs in my home,
and severely injuring a knee. My doctor has forbidden me to travel.
Therefore I have had to cancel my trip to the Conference in
Philadelphia. As it has been my hope and dream of years to someday
bring over the head of the Romanian National Archives to speak to us,
you can well imagine my sorrow and despair at this turn of events when,
having finally achieved this goal, I cannot be there to meet with him
personally and to share in your experience.
However, all arrangements and events will be in the extremely capable
hands of our wonderful Research Coordinator, Robert Wascou. He will be
Dr. Dobrincu's guide and mentor during the Conference, and the
facilitator for all of the ROM-SIG events.
If any of you wish to have a private meeting with Dr. Dobrincu please
contact Bob at his email address: <email@example.com> He will be
making all appointments! You will all have the opportunity to ask
questions of Dr. Dobrincu at the ROM-SIG meeting following his talk, on
Tues. Please remember that he is our distinguished guest, and should
be treated with great politeness and diplomacy, if we hope to make a
positive impression to help with further negotiations with the Romanian
archives. Please do not take out on him any frustrations you may have
had in past years, as he was not the author of those, but is now trying
to help! Remember, this is probably going to be his first encounter
with a large Jewish group. Let's do ourselves proud!
I will be thinking of you all, and wishing desperately that I was there too!
