Wilhelm Russ, photographer #galicia

David Scriven

Dear All,

"W Russ" was responsible for many photographs of family and scenery
in the Drohobycz/Boryslaw area. His first name was, I believe,
Wilhelm and I've seen him referred to as the 'Jewish photographer'
on some web-sites. Whether or not this is the case, it is claimed by
some members of my family that he is related to my great-grandfather
Dawid Russ, so I'm trying to find out something about him, in the
hope that it might give me some more info about the Russ family.

Polish Wikipedia has a short note about Wilhelm Russ:
Wilhelm Russ (ur. 1873 zm. 1934) - nestor fotografii polskiej,
wlasciciel zakladow fotograficznych w Drohobyczu, Boryslawiu i
Truskawcu. Ojciec krajoznawcy i fotografa Gustawa Russa. W czasie I
wojny swiatowej wykonywal zdjecia dokumentalne. W jego zakladach
fotograficznych nauke zawodu pobieral Michal Rossler-Moczulski,
pozniej znany mikrofotograf i makrofotograf naukowy.

which Google translates as:
William Russ (born 1873 - died. 1934) - senior Polish photography,
the owner of establishments photographs in Drohobych, Borysawiu and
Truskawcu. Krajoznawcy father and a photographer Gustav Russa.
During World War I, pursued pictures and documentaries. In its
vocational training establishments photographic fetch Michal

OK, so computer translation isn't quite there yet! Does anybody
have any further information about Wilhelm Russ? - was he, in fact,
