Jews of South Africa - History & Culture

This course explores how Jews have been part of South African history since
the earliest colonial times. We look at the establishment of early Zionism
in South Africa, and the various waves of Jewish migration. We consider
Jewish communities' role in times of crisis, during the Second World War and
later in the Apartheid era, and examine questions of individual and communal
conscience. We also look at the extraordinary influence of South Africans in
the Diaspora in the worlds of the arts, politics, science, medicine and
technology.

Tuesday mornings 10.00-12.00
