Regarding the religious symbol upon Sergeant S.S. Myerson; 31284,
headstone within El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt. Date of death:
15/08/1942 Imperial Light Horse, S.A. Forces, South African,
the CWGC have agreed to "change the religious symbol on this
casualty's headstone to support the fact that this casualty was of
the Jewish faith.

This case has been accepted on the basis that, at the time, no contact
was made with the next of kin, and importantly, there are references
within our records of this casualty being Jewish. As this was the case
no religious emblem appears to have been added to his headstone. This,
along with your documentary evidence you have supplied, namely the
attestation papers, we now have sufficient supporting documentary
evidence.

Whilst the Commission will now be replacing this headstone, it seems
appropriate at this stage to ask if you are currently in contact with
any next of kin to this casualty? If so, we would be interested in
making contact regarding the addition of a personal inscription to the
new headstone, as contact with the family was never established
immediately after the war."

If anyone knows any next of kin please contact me privately and I will
forward to the CWGC officer dealing with this. This has been agreed
via the intervention of Martin Sugarman of the Association of Jewish
ex-Servicemen and Women.

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day parade in London.
