Subcarpathia SIG #Subcarpathia JewishGen's Subcarpathian SIG - Conference Update #subcarpathia

Lara Diamond

It was great meeting so many fellow Subcarpathia researchers last week
in Orlando!

First, some exciting news (which I didn't know about during our SIG
meeting): We won the Stern Grant! That means that the money from
that grant will go straight into paying for more records to be
photographed. (We still need additional donations to be able to get
all of the records that we've identified though--see below how you can

During the SIG meeting, the following stats were shared as far as what
we have so far. This has all been done since last summer's meeting in

280 vital record books
21,426 images >from those books
251 of those books have been fully indexed for Jewish records

23,139 Jewish vital records transcribed
17,580 records searchable on JewishGen

There was also a representative in our SIG meeting >from FamilySearch
who said he may have records already photographed that we could
transcribe. I'm waiting for a complete list of those (the initial
list had many church books which aren't too useful to us), but
hopefully there will be documents of interest there.

If you'd like to contribute to our project to allow us to continue to
acquire records, you can donate to the Sub-Carpathia SIG General Fund
(which is tax-deductible if you're in the US) here:
