In his messages of September 28,2000 and of November 5,2000, Len Chernos
asked about "Samgorodok." In the earlier of the two he wrote that his
research had found three Samgorodoks.
My 1962 Columbia-Lippincott Gazetteer has an entry for only one Samgorodok.
It says only of the town that in 1926 it had a population of 4,221, is (or
was?) in the North Vinnitsa oblast,is 25 miles northeast of Vinnitsa, and
is noted for metalworks and kaolin.
Without more hints >from his family history, I don't know how Mr. Chernos
can determine whether the C-L entry is the right Samgorodok.
