You have all been quite helpful to me in the past, and I am really still
a novice, but an interesting question came up when I was questioning my
mother about her parents and my father's parents.
My mother does not think that her father was ever Naturalized. Is it
possible that he could live in the US over 60 years, own a business and
not be a citizen? Wouldn't he need some kind of Visa? I believe that he
came to the US around 1906 and dies in 1978, were the laws that lax? And
of course, now I wonder if any of my grandparents became Naturalized. My
mother is only sure that her mother was, because she remembers the
swearing in (sometime in the '30's).
So the next part of my question is: IF someone was never Naturalized,
then where could I go to try to find answers to where they were from,
actual surnames, etc?
Thank You for your help.
