Ukraine SIG #Ukraine Ukraine Family History Library (FHL) Project #ukraine

Flo Elman

Dear SIG Members,
As you probably all know, we've been waiting for a capable person to
volunteer as a coordinator for our Ukraine Family History Library (FHL)
Project. I'm very pleased to announce that Ron Doctor has kindly stepped
forward to get this venture underway. The list of those who have offered
assistance has been sent to him, but he is still interested in seeing this
volunteer list grow so that we can make good time in accomplishing our ends.

Russian (Old Cyrillic) and Hebrew translators &/or proofreaders are
especially needed as the Russian and Hebrew records may contain different
information.

For those of you may not be familiar with the details, here's a short review about what this project is all about. An agreement was reached this summer between our JewishGen Research Division & the LDS Genealogical Society of Utah on behalf of the Ukraine SIG. The Family History Library (FHL) has already sent us digitized images of several of their microfilmed Ukraine Jewish vital records >from the Czarist period for translation, data entry & uploading into a searchable All-Ukraine Database.

The initial microfilms that have been digitized are vital records >from a
number of towns in the area of Zvenigorodka in south-central Kiev.

Those interested in volunteering can contact Ron Doctor at
rondoctor@earthlink.net

Thank you all,
Florence Elman
