Ukraine SIG #Ukraine Re: Townname of Sklut? #ukraine

Lacking other clues, a possible "Russian/Ukrainian" town "Sklut" as
recorded at Ellis Island might be today's Skalat.

According to the ShtetlSeeker Town Search at
http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm
Skalat in Ukraine is 212.9 miles WSW of Kiev. You will find it about 20
miles ESE of Ternopil. Ternopil is about halfway >from Lviv to Chmelnyckyj .

To the Ukraine Sig,

I have found some entries in the Ellis Island manifest for a family which
lists its origin as "Sklut." I have checked my book, "Where Once We
Walked" to find a Russian/Ukrainian town by that name, but have failed to
find one. Has anyone else come across this problem?
