One of the speakers at a previous JGSIA Seminar mentioned that one way that you can tell if you have Chassidic ancestors is that the Siddur (prayer book) follows the Sephardic ritual rather than the Ashkenazic ritual. This would lead me to believe that your family might well be Chassidic in origin.
