In my family, we were brought up with the belief that you never name a
new baby for a living person but choose the name of someone who had
passed on. Many of us were named for the same ancestor but with
variations of their name ie Leah, Leona, Lee, Lori, Lynn all named for
our /Aunt Leah/ who passed in the early 1960's. We also have often
/Americanized/ our children's names so that Yoshua became Jason and so
forth. Everyone in our family has a "Jewish" name as well as their legal
given name.
