To my colleagues researching family history in Ukraine,
Below is our list of the top 10 Ukrainian towns, ranked by the number of researchers who registered in the JewishGen Family Finder and declared their towns of interest. As we scan microfilms >from the LDS Family History Library to collect digital images of historical records of births, marriages, divorces and deaths, we have given these towns priority attention. Because some microfilms for larger towns also contain records for smaller towns in the same district, we now have records for about 48 towns altogether. Another factor is that several volunteers have been scanning records from towns in which they are most interested, regardless of rank.Eventually, of course, translators will review the records and extract their data for public access through the JewishGen Ukraine Database. That work is under way, and volunteers continue to scan microfilms of Jewish vital records. http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Ukraine/ By the way, projects like this suggest why it's important to list your families in the JewishGen Family Finder. If you haven't registered, you may do so here: http://www.jewishgen.org/jgff/ The Top 10 Towns For those marked (complete), we have scanned all vital records available on FHL microfilms.
