Cleveland is home to many descendants of people who immigrated >from
Tetiev (Tetiyev). The Oheb Zedek Cedar Sinai Synagogue, which
incorporates the old Tetiever Shul, is planning several events to
commemorate the 95th anniversary of the 1920 pogrom in Tetiev.
There will be a Kiddush on Saturday, may 2, 9 a.m. Fred Livingstone
will speak briefly on his 2013 visit to Tetiev. There will be some
memorabilia on display.
On Thursday evening, May 7, Sam Kliger, AJC's director of Russian
Community Affairs, will speak. His responsibilities include creating,
developing and implementing a variety of programs with the goal of
successfully integrating Russian Jews into the American Jewish
community and general American society. He also serves as a liaison
between the AJC and Russian Jewish communities and organizations around
the world. Among other things, Kliger is responsible for preparing a new
generation of leaders >from the Russian Jewish community. Kliger emigrated
to the U. S. >from Moscow in 1990, after being a "refusenik" for many years.
He has published a number of works on Russian immigrants in the U. S.
