Gesher Galicia has just posted a complete and beautiful historical
1829 cadastral map of the village of Kujdance (Kydantsi, today in the Zbarazh raion of the Ternopil oblast of western Ukraine): http://maps.geshergalicia.org/cadastral/kujdance-kydantsi-1829/ The village has always been small, with few of the features of larger towns, and even today retains the basic landscape structure it had in this map of almost 200 years ago. But even here, things change; after the original survey, Austrian imperial officials returned to Kujdance to update the map in 1860, and used the paper copy we've digitized have to mark their measurements of new land parcel divisions and new building construction, in red ink. For anyone with ancestry linked to this village, or anyone who loves the artistry and precision of early Austrian Empire cartography, this map is a treasure. Acquisition of the map scan images and assembly of this browsable map were made possible by Gesher Galicia member contributions to the Kujdance Galician Archival Records Project (GARP); more info about GARP projects is available here: http://www.geshergalicia.org/projects/garp/ The original paper map is preserved by the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Lviv (TsDIAL): http://www.archives.gov.ua/Eng/Archives/ca04.php The GG Map Room home page: http://maps.geshergalicia.org/ Jay Osborn Gesher Galicia Map Room Coordinator Warsaw, Poland maps@...
