The documentary film "My Dear Children" will be screened at 2 p.m. April
15, 2018, at Temple Beth Abraham & Temple Beth Am in Canton,
Massachusetts. The film follows a Jewish woman >from South Africa
exploring her roots in Ukraine and contains footage of Shumsk and
environs. The filmmakers consulted with several JewishGenners with
Shumsk roots and connections during their research, and two of us will
be at the screening to discuss the film.

Please share this event link, especially with anyone in Massachusetts or
Rhode Island who is researching Jewish roots in Ukraine.

and here's the film blurb:

 "My Dear Children"
A story of Jewish faith, family, and a tragedy that reverberated for
generations.
The pogroms in the years following the Russian Revolution of 1917
killed tens of thousands of Jews and marked the beginning of the
near-obliteration of Jewish life >from an area of the world to which
nearly 80 percent of the world's Jewry can trace its roots. Feiga
Shamis, a Jewish mother of 12, wrote about those years in a rare
first-hand account.  What happened drove her to make a choice no mother
should ever have to make.  But it was a choice that ensured the survival
of two of her children.
