Yiddish Theatre and Vadeville #YiddishTheatre Re: Mitnick in Montreal #yiddish

Roberta Berman asked: Does anyone know if there was someone named I. Mitnick
involved with Yiddish Theater in Montreal in the early 1900s? I am trying
to trace the careers of Ida and Fishel Singer, who were actors in the
Yiddish Theater at that time.
---------------------------------------------------
The more popular books about the Yiddish stage (Vagabond Stars, Yiddish
Theater in America, Zylbercweig's Lexicon of the Yiddish Theatre) do not
seem to mention I. Mitnick nor the Singers.

However, Herman Yablokoff's book "Der Payatz, Around the World with Yiddish
Theater", reports that Ike MITNICK was the Yiddish theater manager in
Montreal in the mid to late 1920's. Apparently, he was influential in
establishing Montreal's Yiddish theater. There is no reference to Ida or
Fishel SINGER.

I suggest that you send a similar request in a message to the current
Yiddish theater company in Montreal, the Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre,
resident theatre for the Saidye Bronfman Center for the Arts in Montreal. A
recent email address for the Bronfman Center is

<mailto:theatre@...;info@...?Subject=Theatre
Contact Inquiry>theatre@...

Good luck in your search - I hope other members of the YT&V group can shed
additional light on your request.
