Lwow Address Directory for 1916 now searchable #galicia
Logan J. Kleinwaks
A Lwow address directory for 1916 is now full-text searchable at
http://genealogyindexer.org, "Ksiega adresowa krol. stol. miasta Lwowa." Searches include this and all other sources by default. You can restrict a search to just this directory by appending {d917} to your search term, like this: kalter {d917}. This directory was very recently digitized by the Library of Congress' Preservation Reformatting Division, and is now searchable thanks to their gracious cooperation and the assistance of Regina Frackowiak. Search results currently link to individual images rather than the Library's usual "page-turner interface," which will be available in the future. The entire directory can be downloaded as a PDF from http://1.usa.gov/1bGaqbG. As far as I know, this is the first "new" major Lwow-specific directory to become available online in several years. Because of its date, it might be especially useful to researchers of families displaced by WWI, although it is unclear to me when its information was collected. Some people listed in the 1914/1915 Lwow War Refugees Address Directory as having fled >from Lwow to Vienna do not appear in this directory, while others do. I have not compared the two sources carefully. The War Refugees Address Directory, "Ksiega adresowa pamiatkowa i adresowa wygnancow wojennych z Galicyi i Bukowiny," is also searchable at genealogyindexer.org. For full updates about sources added to genealogyindexer.org, subscribe to the email list at http://genealogyindexer.org/news. This is one of 22 directories added in the past week alone.
