JGS Conejo Valley and Ventura County March 1, 2020 Meeting Reminder- Note Earlier Start Time for This One Time Only

NOTE:  MEETING STARTS ONE HOUR EARLIER 12:30-2:30 PM  WE OPEN at 12 NOON for SCHMOOZING CORNER

 

The Jewish Genealogical Society of the Conejo Valley and Ventura County's program is Sunday, March 1, 2020 12:30-2:30 PM at Temple Adat Elohim 2420 E Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks, CA 91362.   We open with the schmoozing corner and traveling library at 12 noon.  As the children will be leaving Sunday school at 12 noon and their parents will have their cars to pick up their children, please have patience in the parking lot.. This is a one-time only change of start time.

 

Security:  Remember that you need to stop at the security kiosk when you enter the front gate and tell the security guard you are attending the JGSCV meeting.  He may direct you to the side or back for parking if there is no room in front due to the parents’ picking up the children.

 

The Program:  Comparing Jewish Resources on Ancestry, FamilySearch, Findmypast, MyHeritage and JewishGen

 

Enjoy this comparative overview of Jewish record collections available on Ancestry.com, FamilySearch, Findmypast and MyHeritage, as well as research tools on each site that can be especially helpful for Jewish research. Also, learn how the JewishGen collections on Ancestry.com differ from comparable collections on JewishGen.org, both in content and the search experiences. Get tips on when it might be better to search on one site or the other.

 

Speaker:  Ellen Kowitt is past president of JGS Colorado and JGS Greater Washington. She has served  as an IAJGS board member and has served on various IAJGS Committees; been a recipient of IAJGS Program and Stern Awards; led Ukraine trip for JewishGen Shtetlschleppers; created KehilahLinks websites and been Lyubar, Ukraine town leader for 23 years; coordinated Yizkor Book translations for Ukraine towns; and indexed revision lists, memorial plaques, gravestones, and Colorado probate records. Ellen is an Avotaynu contributor. She is currently Vice President of the Colorado Chapter, Association of Professional Genealogists.

 

Schmoozing Corner:  One of our senior members will be conducting the Schmoozing Corner starting at 12 noon.

Directions:

Take 101 Freeway - exit Rancho Road in Thousand Oaks, go north (if coming from the west, cross Thousand Oaks Blvd ) to E. Hillcrest Drive turn right on E. Hillcrest go about 1.3 miles (just east of Conejo School Road) Temple is on the right. There are approximately 75 parking spots within the complex. There is no parking on Hillcrest Drive . You may park in the complex or on any of the side streets.

 

Membership: Our 2020 Membership renewal and joining campaign is underway and renewals were due as of January 1, 2020. . Membership forms are available at the meeting and on our website, https://www.jgscv.org/membership.html . Anyone may join JGSCV. Annual dues are $30 for an individual and $35 for a family.  Dues increased January 1st by $5.00 so renew/join now! Keep your membership in good standing!

 

The meeting is open to the public without charge.
