Re: Vetting family tree submissions to genealogy sites for data soundness #general

None of the sites verify sources, or even require sources to be listed. I maintain two databases, one contains the tree with people for whom sources are cited, and one that has no sources cited or is "speculative."  Remember that even cited sources could be derivative sources such as indexes, which can often contain errors, or published genealogies, which may not cite any original sources. The uploaded trees are likely full of errors but still useful as "finding" tools.

Don't discount them just because of their potential for error, use them as sources of information in need of refinement.
