Double Program: "Galicia, the Austrian Empire & Beyond: Mining Unusual
Records in Archives & Online to Expand Your Research" and "Touring the
Gesher Galicia Website" with Pamela Weisberger

Not everything is online. Learn how to research the people of a
community within the context of the place they lived, in all its
historical layers, using online and archival resources. We'll focus
on the record collections of Gesher Galicia to demonstrate the
surprises in these genealogical treasures. For researchers whose
interests lie beyond Galicia, there will be examples of similar
records pertaining to research in other countries. We will also look
at historical newspapers throughout Eastern Europe. Putting theory
into practice Take an interactive tour of Gesher Galicia's
award-winning website and search engines. This site is a one-stop
resource for people interested in researching their families and
ancestral towns >from the former Austro-Hungarian province of Galicia
with content for 500+ Galician towns and over 3,000 Galician families.
We'll do real-time searches (showing you the special "sort" features
on the site) to demonstrate the best ways to mine the riches of this
virtual "gateway to Galicia.
