Sourcream was a mainstay in my childhood,for anything,but in particular for latkes and for blintz souffles. But it was the pronunciation of the word latkes which differentiated Galizianer from Litvak.  In our home, it was latkuhs ...our maternal side was from Hungary/Czech Republic and perhaps Saatmar; our paternal side was from Lomza Gybernia,Poland..two styles of Yiddish.  In the home of a cousin by marriage, it was latkees.
