It's only a guess, but I recall hearing from early genealogist Shmuel Gorr that he was related to Israeli judge Shimon Agranat who headed the "Agranat Commission" which investigated the Yom Kipppur War. Shmuel said that the 'g' in Agranat was the Russian replacement for an 'h' which doesn't exist in Russian, and the name meant that they were kohanim - descendants of Aharon. If that fits your family you might consider it.
