California Voter Registration - 1930s #usa

Roberta Berman

I have an aunt who moved from Brooklyn, New York to Los Angeles in the 1930’s. She is listed in the “California, U.S., Voter Registrations, 1900-1968" on Ancestry for 1934 and 1936 in Los Angeles County.
She moved back to New York and applied for Social Security Nov. 25, 1936 giving an address in Brooklyn, NY.

Questions: How did the California registration work at that time? Was it good for only two years? What was the cutoff date to register in order to vote in an upcoming election?
