My grandparents – Siegfried and Klara Rosenberg – left Frankfurt in late May 1941 for the US. According to JDC/Transmigration Bureau records, Otto Oppenheimer (of 2235 Laguna Street, San Francisco) deposited funds towards my grandparents' travel costs.
I am interested in learning more about Otto Oppenheimer. (He doesn't appear to be directly related to my grandparents but he may, like my grandfather, have originally been from Hessen.) What was Otto Oppenheimer's own background? When did he arrive in the US and what did he do in San Francisco? Did helped many others to escape Germany for the US?
