Re: First name of "Shaia" #names

This is a fantastic discussion.

I have a Shia in my family (Lithuanian), only Shia was his actual, "official" name, not a diminutive or nickname.

Would it be a common practice to name a child Shia after a relative who had passed away who had been named Yehoshua? For that matter, was it a common practice to name a child Shia, rather than naming them Yehoshua and just calling them the diminutive?

Thank you for your thoughts!
