I went to college (CCNY) with Irena Klepfisz, who was born in the Warsaw Ghetto. Her father, Michael, was a hero defender. She and her mother made it to Sweden after the war and then to NYC, where her mother worked for YIVO. Irena is a poet and Yiddishist and teaches at Barnard College. I visited Warsaw a few years ago and saw her father’s grave and memorials to him at the cemetery and in the Polin Museum. Perhaps she is a relative.
