Just to let everyone know, I have received several emails in response to my query.
One of them led me to emailing a potential cousin who actually lives in an area in New York where I used to live. I haven't heard back yet.
Another pointed me to a website where UK records are being digitized, and there was a birth index for my maternal grandfather, and also a possible marriage index as well.
