Responding yesterday to David Ellis's query about "Lefchitza," I
described the town of Lowczyce, near Zydaczow. I thank Alexander
Sharon for pointing out that the population numbers I cited (taken
from the "Gemeindelexikon der im Reichsrate vertretenen
Koenigreiche und Laender. XII. Galizien" -- tinyurl.com/GL-Galicia)
applied to Lowczyce's "folwark" (agricultural homestead) and not to
the town itself. The town's overall population in 1900 was 1,154,
including 33 Jews.
