Since my maternal family hails >from Brzesko/Galicia those two surnames
looked familiar to me. As a general rule I would recommend to try to look
into the old country. The area of Brzesko and Bochnia (the neighboring
townships of Mokrzyska) has many of those surnames. Try JRI-PL
Database and also Ellis Island DB has Rifka STEINLAUF who arrived >from
Krakow in 1892. Krakow is the "Big City" people would sometimes refer to.
I believe that looking at those DBs will yield good clues.
