This may depend on what’s behind your question. It was certainly correct that your mother would have been considered to be a Polish citizen by birth and that she would only have become an Austrian citizen had her father naturalised. But I understand that your mother may now, under the new law allowing descendants of people who fled Austria due to Nazi persecution to claim Austrian citizenship, be considered to be de facto Austrian. If that’s something that interests you and any other descendants of your mother, you should send a query to the Consular Section of the Austrian Embassy in Washington DC.
