If your parents belonged to a synagogue, ask them.  I'm quite sure that vital records were still the responsibility of the church/synagogues at that time in the province of Quebec, and that deaths were recorded by them.  I imagine this would be necessary for burial.  I know for a fact that births were still recorded by the synagogues at that time.
