NY State Death Indexes on microfiche #usa #records

I am trying to find the town where Morris Kamhi died on 20 Dec. 1968.

The NY State Death Index on Ancestry provides this information...
Name: Morris Kamhi
Gender: Male
Age: 81
Birth Date: abt 1887
Residence Place: Aqueduct, Queens, New York, USA
Death Date: 20 Dec 1968
Death Place: New York, USA
Certificate Number: 100515
... but not the town where death occurred.
The decidedly user-unfriendly New York State index at
has similar information. (Ancestry helps by deciphering Residence Code 7096.)
According to Mount Hebron Cemetery, where Morris is buried, he died in Hempstead, NY (Nassau County, Long Island) -- but the clerk of the Town of Hempstead could find no record.
Does anyone know whether any of the libraries which hold copies of  NYS death indexes on microfilm have them for 1968? In the past they had indexes to NYS deaths that occurred over 50 years ago, but I wonder if NYS has continued to update the libraries' holdings -- and also whether a microfiched index for 1968 is likely to include town of death. (I believe that fiche for earlier years do.)
I know that I can order the record from NY State, but would much prefer to request it from a town clerk, who is likely to respond sooner.
Thank you.
