Join Sephardic World live this Sunday! Ashkenazi attendees are doubly
welcome! The Sephardic Diaspora group on Facebook was set up in 2014 in response to how Sephardim were represented in the Ashkenazi-focused world of Jewish genealogy. We felt the need for a space for informed discussion on Sephardic genealogy and history. The Sephardic Diaspora has had successes in the world of academia and Jewish genealogy, but has so far barely scratched the surface in the wider Jewish community. The Spanish and Portuguese nationality laws have shone a spotlight on the subject, as well as exacerbating tensions between Sephardic genealogists and the Ashkenazi-led "crypto-Judaism" movement. The group recently celebrated its 5,000th member. The four admins - Ton, David, Michael Waas and Jarrett Ross - will discuss how Sephardic genealogy has evolved, where it is going, successes and failures. Michael pursues both academic and genealogical careers, whilst Jarrett is now on the board of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies and works as a forensic genetic genealogist. https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheSepardicDiaspora The meeting is on Sunday 6 February 2022, at 11am in LA, 2pm NYC, 7pm London, 8pm Paris/Amsterdam and 9pm Jerusalem. Patrons can join us on Zoom.
