New York City Death Records #usa #records

In October 2017 my wife Regina & I testified at a hearing of the New York City Department of Health to eliminate restrictions on access to Death Certificates from the years 1949 to the present. I offered suggestions such as stamping the death certificates with the words “For Genealogy Purposes Only” as California uses. There were many other people testifying including representatives of Reclaim The Records. We questioned why the NYC Department of health had possession of death certificates over 50 years old & why they hadn’t turned them over to the NYC Municipal Archives which holds death certificates prior to 1949. In October 2019 I received a call from the NYC Department of Investigation requiring me to appear at their downtown offices wanting to know why I had requested “so many” death certificates over the years & accusing me of using them to acquire such information as Social Security numbers even though on many applications I had the SS# & the certificate didn’t. They informed me I was prohibited from ordering any further certificates under the current rules & restrictions. I wanted to know if anyone else had a similar experience. It has been over 4 years since the hearing at the NYC Dept. of Health & I realize that we have been dealing with Covid for the last two years but has any progress been made?
