I had cold-called a possible relative and even with significant family data and common names, was met with significant reticence. Finally, I suggested that the person check out my website and my professional credentials to establish my bona fides. Within a couple of days, she initiated a callback, warm and friendly. When I asked if she had seen my website CV, she said: "I was looking at it the other day with my husband, and he said 'Of course you're related - just look at his picture, he could be your father's twin'."

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.
