Orange County California JGS Meeting Sunday May 22nd 10:00 am with Ken Bravo #jgs-iajgs #announcements

The next meeting of the Orange County California Jewish Genealogy
Society is Sunday at 10:00 am on Zoom. The speaker will be Ken Bravo speaking on Finding Frieda. Ken is the former President of the IAJGS. Finding the first cousin of one’s mother can be exciting enough, but it takes on a whole new dimension when the very existence of that person is unknown. Ken will tell the amazing story of how he discovered and tracked down his mother's first cousin, whose family had lost contact with the rest of the family during WW II and was unable to reestablish contact during the Soviet period due to the Iron Curtain. Even after she emigrated to the US with her family, Frieda despaired of ever meeting her once tight-knit extended family. This is a story of genealogical detective work, serendipity, and, of course, a happy ending! Frieda is also my late mother-in-law Gloria Cohen Altman's first cousin. Ken Bravo and my husband Bob Altman are 2nd cousins.
