Re: British citizenship #unitedkingdom #poland

Hi Odeda,

My answer was about Tony Allan's father, who he stated 'came to the UK at the age of 16 from Danzig Poland in 1936'. I therefore assumed his father was a Polish national. However, I now see that Danzig (Gdansk) in 1936 was neither in Poland nor Germany but was a Free City, under the protection of the League of Nations. The Free City was created on 15 November 1920 so, since Tony's father was 16 in 1936, he may have been born before the Free City was established. If his papers (and perhaps his native language) led to him being viewed as German by the British authorities, it's possible he could have been interned as an enemy alien.
