Correction: MNJGS event on Yizkor books JUNE 12 at 1PM central time #announcements #yizkorbooks #education
On Sunday June 12, 2022 from 1:00-2:30 PM CDT, the MNJGS will host Dorothy Gross Nadosy presenting a program, What Yizkor Books Tell Us -- and Don't Tell Us, about those books, many in English translations now, that memorialize Jewish communities that were lost in the Holocaust and also inform us of their earlier history. Drawing from Yizkor books from several Eastern European countries, she will provide an overview of the contents of these books and how they can contribute to our understanding of our ancestral towns.
Dorothy’s English translation of the Yizkor book from Berehove, Ukraine, formerly Beregzász, Hungary, is published online by jewishgen.org. As a result of her research into her Beregszász roots, she has been granted Hungarian citizenship (dual citizenship). She serves on the MNJGS board and has volunteered as a Hungarian translator at IAJGS conferences. She also serves on boards of Hadassah Minneapolis St. Paul and the Minnesota Hungarians.
The program will take place on Zoom. For more information go to https://www.mnjgs.org/event.
Questions can be emailed to MNJGS at https://www.mnjgs.org/contact.
Admission is free for members, $5 for non-members. To pay the $5 or become a member, go to https://www.mnjgs.org/support-us.--
