I just did this for my great-grandfather (filed 1936) and his brother (filed 1952) at https://foiaonline.gov/foiaonline/action/public/request. I gave their known SSN and DOB, the DOD was not necessary as they would be over 120. I paid the $21 each and received a photocopy of the original application in a few days. It provided me with the maiden name of their mother - POZARNY - which is what I was looking for. The brother's application even had a spot for "Full Name Given at Birth" which was another good piece of documentation!
