Not to beat this to death, but...
I expect Yiddish Leib came from the German.
Sure enough, the German word for lion is Lowe with an umlaut over the O.
It would be pronounced something like 'loove'
Probably relates to many of the Jewish Lowe family names.
And the holding company that had MGM was Loew
so maybe the Ars Gratis Ars lion wasn't a coincidence
