My mother’s Hebrew/Yiddish name was Chiene. She was called Khienka. The family originally came from the Nesvish/Gorodeya area in Belarus/Russia It appears that we had a “Chiene” in a previous generation, for whom she was named. She was not named after a “Chana”, although that could very well be the source of the name.
