Krasnobrod, like other Jewish shtetls in Poland, was home to Jews from a variety of circles and social classes. Business owners, merchants, grocers, tradesmen, and laborers. They lived together in peace and unity. They were mindful of prayer and believed in “love thy neighbor as yourself.” Krasnobrod was not listed on any maps until the First World War. In the period from 1920 to 1930, the economic situation of the Jews was quite good. Many residents were engaged in the lumber industry. This book tells us about life in the town, the institutions, the political parties, the social activities, and the various personalities. Their hardships, their joys and their dreams. This peaceful existence came to a bitter end when the Germans occupied the area in September 1939.
May this book be a memorial to those who lived and died in Krasnobrod.
