I would like to know if there are any existing and/or accessible Russian military or conscription records for mid-19th century Poland. Our family story is that the 3 brothers who came to California in the early 1850s and remained here had come to the U.S. to avoid conscription like that of their older brother in the Russian area of Poland. Their surname was probably Friedman and/or Natan (Polish for Nathan) or something that became Norton in Boston, New Jersey (mostly Newark), San Francisco and Los Angeles.
