Dale,

There is a Warren J. Friedman in Family Search from Chicago whose DOB matches the date you give so on that basis I presume I found the right person.  According to these records, extracted from the US WW2 Army Enlistment Records, 1938-1946
    1.  HIs  YOB is 1920'
     2.  He entered military service at Camp Grant, Winnebago, IL
    3.  Military rank was Private
    4.  Branch:  Army
    5.  Serial number:  36323750
I also checked the Department of VA BIRLS Death File with no response.  BIRLS contains the birth and death dates of more than 14 million veterans and their beneficiaries who died between 1850 and 2010.  A check of Find a Grave and the National Grave Locater (names of veterans buried in VA cemeteries)  did not come up with anything on him.  Fold3 also had nothing on him.

A source you may want to try is the National Jewish Welfare Board publication "American Jews in World War !! . https://www.google.com/search?q=national+jewish+welfare+board+bureau+of+war+records&rlz=1C1CHBD_enUS817US817&oq=National+Jewish+Welfare+Board&aqs=chrome.1.0i512l2j0i390l2j69i60.8307j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8  It contains the names of 550,000 Jews who fought in WW2.  The names are sorted by state and you have to purchase the pages you want.  I don't recall exactly what I paid but  $6. per page or maybe a total of $6.00 but don't quote me.
